When a player interacts with a buddy, their “affinity” changes (love, like-dislike, or hate). Players who lack the necessary skills can instruct a friend to hack a terminal or pick a lock for them. With this new ability to interact with the outside world, these companions will now represent the player character. You can only take one partner on most missions, but other players on others may join you. Boston and the surrounding Massachusetts area, known as “The Commonwealth,” are prominently featured in the game’s open-world post-apocalyptic setting.
